Its a tenor to start with, the solo is done on an alto, then he changes back to tenor again. Check out 3:14 :) That's my bet as an alto player anyway.

The tuning is Open G, search the internet for more info. I don't know about pedals, but as You might know the sound is not i a pedal, overdrive can just modulate existing sound, not create new. The sound is in a guitar and in You hands. Keep searching! :)
