America has been failed by its government, and the nation now faces economic and security catastrophes unless its leaders change their ways, Wharton management professor Lawrence G. Hrebiniak concludes in his new book, The Mismanagement of America, Inc. He directs his severest criticism at the government's supervision of the Social Security Trust Fund and an intelligence infrastructure in which various agencies are no better at communicating with each other than they were before the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

LOL, his premise is interesting, but utterly pointless. Government, BY DEFINITION, is incompetent. That's why wise people long ago figured out that our central government should DO VERY VERY LITTLE and should have VERY LITTLE MONEY TO SPEND. This dufus actually thinks that the problem is the wrong people elected to office. No, the problem is the government is doing too much, and is, like any other overgrown and politicized organization... incompetent.

A man opened a bank account and soon after that he got his cheque book. He started signing cheques and paying with them everywhere. Soon after that he has spent so much money than a bank officer called him and said: "Dear Sir, you have spent so much money now than you can go to jail. You must pay that money". Then the man said: "Oh my goodness, you scared me to death! No problem, I WILL SIGN YOU A CHEQUE"

So.... how is it that either Mcain or Obama are better qualified to run the country than our Prof. Hrebiniak here? How exactly does that process work? This clip got me fuming angry - and I'm Canadian! (ok, I've got family in the States, so there's my connection). Where are the angry mobs?

Fiat currency encourages disastrous fiscal and monetary policy. Cash is trash.

Get rid of the complexity of the tax code?! How will high-net worth individuals push off the taxes on the rest of society?!

Is Wharton trying to pretend it's in London or something? I'm willing to bet the guy who does the Knowledge@Wharton video has never ordered a cheesesteak.

He has good ideas, but is hopelessly naive in the implementation. The politicians will never willingly remove their fat snouts from the hogtrogh of payola and corruption. The Supreme Court wilfully deny the voters their say in all issues that would reduce Federal power.

Very interesting video discussing good topics. Too bad he has no philosophical foundation. The answers are contained in the Declaration of Independence and the US Constitution. For example, no need for a 'balanced budget' Amendment. Obey Art 1 Sec 8 Cl 5 and Art 1 Sec 10 Cl 1 by using only 'gold and silver a tender in payments of debts.' The monetary commodities are key checks and balances in the political framework. The current bad monetary system is the root cause of most problems. Kill it!

Take away the blank check of gov't spending, Eliminate earmarks, revise an outdated tax code, pass a real balanced-budget amendment, hold leaders accountable, pass an ethics bill with teeth, etc.--only then will things change.
